The Official Candy of Y2K

What is it with the year 2000 in chocolate? First we saw M&Ms and Mars duking it out for the honor of being the official candy of the millennium, which we understand will be a rather plump one as millennia ago.
Keeping with that theme was a package that Novell just sent to us in the mail. It was a hefty helping of M&Ms. And a note. “Doesn’t 200 seem like a pretty large number when referring to an unexpected sum of money? And 200 probably seems like just enough when fantasizing about the number of chocolate candies you can eat in one afternoon,” it said. The kicker, June 14 marks 200 days until the year 2000. To date, more than 33 million network customers have successfully used Novell’s year 200 solutions, etc, etc. We get the idea.
Perhaps more clever, although when you think about it even more predictable, is the latest product and apparently one of the only products from the Silicon Valley Confection Company. This month the firm announced the Year 2K Bug, a 1.9 ounce ladybug shaped milk chocolate bar sporting raised Y2K letters on its back. At a suggested retail of $4.99 per bug, the candy isn’t for everyone, particularly survivalists looking for a few hundred pounds of bulk rations. The inventors of the treat hope corporations will stockpile the stuff instead, not for TEOTWAWKI reasons, but for client gifts, promo items, or employee incentives.
